I made my first ever trip to Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge. It is approximately 130 miles from Campbelltown, PA. I arrived about 8:00 am. One of the first things I saw was an Osprey sitting in a tree near its nest. Throughout the day I saw many Osprey, Bald Eagles, and Vultures flying overhead. I hiked all the trails that were open: Tubby Cove Boardwalk; Duck Inn Trail; Wildlife Trail; Bayview Butterfly Trail; and the Tidal Marsh Overlook Trail. The Boxes Point Trail was closed due to nesting Bald Eagles. All trails were short and easy to walk. It was a beautiful Friday and hardly anyone was in the refuge. I think I left around 1:00 pm.

Arrived at Elk Neck State Park mid-afternoon. There was no entrance fee. The first place I went was to the Lighthouse Trail which takes you to the Turkey Point Lighthouse on the southern tip of Elk Neck. That was a two mile trail. After that I went immediately to the Beaver Marsh Trail (also 2 miles.) On that trail I saw several pairs of Wood Ducks fly away before I could get close. There was a pair of Bald Eagles nesting along the trail. As I watched the eagles a fox made an appearance. Saw several Wood Thrushes as well. The campground was open and I considered staying overnight. However, I made the trip back home.
