HENRY KREIDER, CHURCH HEAD, DIES TUESDAY

Bishop Henry K. Kreider, 74, prominent churchman, bank president and civic leader, of Campbelltown, and a retired farmer, died on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his home in Campbelltown, following a two years illness of complication. For the past two months he was confined to his home.

Bishop Kreider, a son of the late Rev. John F. Kreider and Mary B. (Kreider) Kreider, was born in the Kreider homestead near Campbelltown and lived in that locality all his life.

Bishop Kreider served as a bishop of the Brethren in Christ Church, Lebanon and Dauphin counties district, from 1911 to 1945, when he resigned; and in 1900 he was elected in the Christian ministry of the Brethren in Christ Church, carrying on that vocation until his illness prevented a continuance of such activity.

For twenty-five years Bishop Kreider served as secretary of the General Executive Board of the Brethren in Christ Church, and at the time of his death he was chairman of the Board of Managers of the Messiah Home at Harrisburg, in which capacity he served for 31 years.

He was president of the Campbelltown Bank from the time of its inception in 1919 until death overtook him. He was also interested in various civic movements in and around Campbelltown and was active for years in the realm of the Campbelltown Water Company and Telephone Company.

Bishop Kreider is survived by his widow, nee Katie R. Hoffman; sons Ethan A. Kreider, Campbelltown; John H. Kreider, Mt. Joy, and Herbert H. Kreider, Campbelltown; a daughter Miss Mary C. Kreider, missionary located in South Rodesia, Africa; daughter Mrs. Grace E. Stoner, East Berlin, Adams County; and daughter Mrs. Annie R. Engle, Campbelltown.

Twenty-four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. He was the last of his immediate family.
