D.R. Kreider Dies Suddenly Today In Sanatorium Here

David Robert Kreider,of Mt. Gretna, scion of one of Lebanon County's older families and a prominent shoe manufacturer in.' his county for many years, died suddenly this morning at the Lebanon Sanatorium as the result of an embolism.Although in ill health for the past several years, his death nevertheless was sudden and unexpected and came as a shock to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances as well as to his immediate family. He was hospitalized only on Monday for the ailment which seized him early in the day and failed to respond to treatment administered during the night.

The son of Mrs. A. S. Kreider and the late Honorable A. S. Kreider, Congressman for this district for many years, he resided in Annville for many years at the family home, Hill Farms, but recently took up residence at Mt. Gretna in a newly built home near Lake Conewago.

Educated In the Annville public schools as a youth he later attended Lebanon Valley College and gained some prominence as an athlete there, especially in football. He then attended and graduated from Yale University and subsequently entered the shoe manufacturing business founded by his late father. For many years he headed the firm as president following tho death of his father, and maintained an active interest in the operation of the concern until stricken with an illness several years ago. He became proficient as a golfer and followed the sport actively for years. During a long and successful business career, he became widely known and recognized throughout the shoe industry in this Nation. The deceased was an active clubman and held membership in the Yale Club, New York City, as well as the Lebanon Country Club, the Quentin Riding Club.The Steitz Club and the Lebanon Lodge of Elks. He was also a member of Mt. Olivet Lodge of the Masonic fraternity.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his widow and the following brothers and sisters: Aaron, Elizabethtown: Henry, Annville ; Clement. Harrisburg; Howard, Annville; George, Lebanon; Mrs. Elizabeth Boger, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Cyrus K. Eckert, Lebanon, and Mrs. William H. Harris, Washington, D.C.
