On northbound interstate 81 between the Pine Grove and Ravine exits there is a ridge of rocks protruding from the end of Second Mountain. There is an American flag painted on the rocks and visible from the highway. According to an NGS datasheet this large boulder is known as Indian Head Rock. I decided to hike up there to see the rock and flag up close.

I parked along a road just off of route 125, along Swatara Creek. It looked like there were some old No Trespassing signs blocking my way. I decided to go ahead anyway. The hike up to the flag was pretty quick and easy. I don't think it took more than 20 minutes. I Hung out on the rocks for a few minutes watching the traffic below. I unexpectedly discovered two NGS geodetic disks embedded on the rocks. I left the rocks and continued on up to the top of Second Mountain. I continued west until I found an old road to walk on. I then saw a PA Game Commission sign. I followed the road until it started down the north side of the mountain. At that point I turned back. Further along the road seemed to continue down the southern side of the mountain as well. I have not seen any maps indicating that this land belongs to the Game Commission, however there were several Game Commission signs. The entire hike was 2.35 miles.
