Born in Campbelltown, Pa., on January 15, 1938, I was the only son of Herbert and Emma Brubaker Kreider. I already had two sisters: Nancy, age 8 and Barbara, age 5. When I was 2 years old, another sister, Kathryn Anne, joined our family. We grew up on our family farm, which had previously also been our Grandfather Henry K. Kreider's farm.
I attended grade school at the Campbelltown Elementary School. In 1955, I graduated from Hershey High School, then in 1959 from Lebanon Valley College with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Having chosen a vocation in medicine, I studied at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, graduating in 1963, then interned at Harrisburg Hospital from l963-l964.
I served the U.S. Public Health service of Arizona from l964-l966, during which time I married Joan Kay Young on June 26, 1965, in Williamston, Mich.
Following the two years in Public Health service, we moved to Philadelphia, Pa., where I served a pediatric residency at St. Christopher's Hospital from 1966-1968. In May of 1968 my mother died very unexpectedly. Later that year Joan and I returned to Arizona, where I engaged in pediatric practice at the Thomas Davis Medical Centers in Tucson, Az., retiring in 1997.
We have been blessed with two children: Andrew Young Kreider, born November 24, 1966 in Philadelphia, Pa., and Laura Beth Kreider, born December 19, 1968, in Tucson, Az.
Andrew is married to Gaye Lynn Marshall, and they live in Tucson. Laura, married to Thomas Martin, lives in Texas. Their children are Justin C. Martin and Jacob H. Martin.
Joan and I are members of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Tucson.
Our lives are filled with family activities, visiting grandsons in Texas, serving in our church, and playing the clarinet in a local band since retirement.
