The youngest child in Ethan and Esther Kreider's family, I was born in Campbelltown, Pa., at the family homestead on June 23, l940. I lived there l8 years, during which I attended elementary school in Campbelltown, 2 years at Hershey High School, and graduated from High School at Messiah Academy, Grantham, Pa., in l958.
At Messiah I found my sweetheart, Melvin Eugene Hock. We dated for about 2 1/2 years and were married on June 11, 1959. Melvin was a farmer at heart, so he enjoyed farming. I enjoyed being a homemaker and raising our three boys: Maynard, Merle and Michael. Melvin felt that a wife's job was in the home, and of course I was glad that I could be a stay-at-home wife and mother.
In the summer we did a lot of camping as a family, and we visited several states that way. We attended and became members of the Green Spring Brethren in Christ Church, and I am still worshipping there. For several years Melvin and I taught the Young People?s Sunday School Class together, and that was very rewarding. I also played the organ and the piano at church. I love to sing, so I sang solos, sang in the choir and led congregational singing. I am presently teaching a Sunday School class of 5 and 6 year olds.
In l984, Melvin passed away. The Lord led me to work in the Dietary Department of the Church of God Nursing Home in Carlisle, Pa. I have been working there the last l8 years. Recently I have been given the responsibility of being in charge of the Letort Manor apartment kitchen---which provides meals for independent-living residents. I bought a home in Carlisle close to my workplace.
My oldest son, Maynard, is a truck-driver for Conway Central Express near Green Castle, Pa. He and his family live in Newville, Pa. Merle is pastor of Geneva Pilgrim Chapel near Conneaut Lake, Pa., where he lives with his family. Our youngest son, Michael, has an apartment in Carlisle and is not married.
I have five grandchildren, and it's a real blessing to me that they are being taught the ways of the Lord.
